The map presents two layers, each illustrating the geographic distribution of the Spanish republican refugees:

• As of 1st April 1939
• At the end of 1939

The layers are intended to offer general information on the main destination sites chosen during the exile, and are based on the most recent bibliographic references on the topic [notably VILAR, JUAN BAUTISTA; La España del exilio. Las emigraciones políticas españolas en los siglos XIX y XX, Editorial Síntesis, Madrid, 2007].
